Leading Russian tech companies and the Government of Russia have held a strategic session on artificial intelligence opportunities for digital transformation leaders working at federal executive bodies.

The event was attended by Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia; Herman Gref, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank; Maxut Shadayev, Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation; Mail.ru Group, Gazprom Neft, Yandex, MTS, and other companies.

The primary goal of the strategic session was the exchange of best practices for using AI to improve the efficiency of problem solving across industries, including digitization of public services. Key insights of companies in AI will be useful to implement the July decrees of the President of Russia. The event was held as part of the execution of the agreement between Sberbank and the government covering high-tech development using artificial intelligence.

The strategic session focused on fields like computer vision, recommender systems, natural language processing, applied work with structured and unstructured data, including AI training, and AI ethics.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia,

“Artificial intelligence events will be included in national and federal projects, as well as digital transformation programs of agencies. Each agency is to design roadmaps to introduce AI into the operations of their departments and industries. Moreover, the government will outline measures to support domestic technology and incentivize the introduction of AI in companies into the Artificial Intelligence federal project. Such measures include the support for startups in the early stages and financing of pilot adoptions of domestic solutions.”

Herman Gref, CEO, Chairman of the Executive Board, Sberbank,

“In 2018, we embarked on a large-scale AI transformation of Sberbank, setting ourselves the goal of becoming a world-class technology company. En route, we’ve realized that the know-how we have accumulated, the scale of the tasks to be resolved, and the results obtained can be used beyond our banks’ operations. This expertise needs to be shared with other market participants for a global digital transformation. I am sure that the dialogue we’ve had at today’s strategic session has been useful to all its participants, and it will definitely affect further technological development as a key factor in economic growth.”

The event also hosted an exhibition of the latest AI solutions that Sberbank and other leading AI companies have already brought to life, including those in medical diagnosis by computers, fraud analytics, computer vision, multimodal biometric identification, cloud solutions, and other innovations.
