Sberbank, Okko, Rambler name most popular romantic movies

February 14, 2020, Moscow — Sberbank and its ecosystem companies – Okko online cinema and Rambler website — have analyzed what the most popular romantic movies among Russians are.

According to the data from Okko online cinema, Top 5 movies in the “All Movies About Love Only” collection over the first two weeks of February (between February 1 and 14, 2020) were: Ice, A Star Is Born, Pretty Woman, Five Feet Apart, and The Proposal. In 2019 this same list featured Ice, About Time, Destination Wedding, The Proposal, and Passengers (ranked from most to least popular by views).

Over the same period in 2020, the “65 Romantic Comedies” collection had the following Top 5 movies: Pretty Woman, Long Shot, The Proposal, Silver Linings Playbook, and Bridget Jones’s Baby. A year before the list featured About Time, Destination Wedding, I Feel Pretty, The Proposal, and Pretty Woman.

Respondents that took part in the survey on February 12 and 13, 2020 also picked their favorite romantic movies and shared their movie preferences.

As much as 37% of them watch movies on streaming websites or via online cinemas; 17% visit conventional offline movie theatres; 10% wait for TV broadcasts; 36% don’t watch new movies at all.

The list of top romantic movies unveiled by the survey differs from what people prefer to watch in online cinemas. The 1990 movie Ghost won with 22% of votes. It’s followed by Titanic with 19% of votes. Pretty Woman and The Bodyguard scored 17% each. Ranking five goes Roman Holiday (10%) followed by The Holiday (6%) and Ice (3%). Love Actually, P.S. I Love You, and The Wedding Planner are popular among 2% of viewers, each. users also picked the movies that impressed them the most recently. Undisputed leaders are Serf (23% of votes) and Joker (22%). These are followed by the movies Invasion (12%), Ford v Ferrari (11%), Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (10%), 1917 (8%), Union of Salvation (5%), Ice (5%), Little Women (3%), and Marathon of Wishes (1%).
